Nakamura Crosses 2800 In June FIDE Ratings
For the first time in his career, GM Hikaru Nakamura has crossed the 2800 mark. On the FIDE June 1 rating list the #1 U.S. grandmaster is fourth in the world with 2802, behind GMs Magnus Carlsen (2876), Fabiano Caruana (2805) and Viswanathan Anand (2804).
With the final Grand Prix in Khanty-Mansiysk just behind us, quite a few top players have played rated games last month. On the new list there are four 2800-players, one more than last month. GM Hikaru Nakamura added three points to break the magic mark officially, for the first time in his career.
GM Vladimir Kramnik climbed from #8 back to #6 after gaining six Elo points at the Russian Team Championship in Sochi. He is now ahead of GM Wesley So and GM Alexander Grischuk; the former didn't play while the latter lost only one rating points over 15 games.
After his great play at the Russian league and especially the Grand Prix, GM Dmitry Jakovenko is now “the best of the rest,” just out of the top 10. GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave made a dive: he went from #12 to #28 due to disappointing results in the Italian league and the Grand Prix.

The top GMs did not play bullet games in the past month, and so Nakamura kept his nicely rounded 3100 rating and also his 265-point lead over #2 GM 2Vladimirovich90.
FM wonderfultime (Minh Le), last month still 12th, managed to sneak in and take over the #3 spot from Vachier-Lagrave! Quite a bullet specialist.
Arguably more impressive is the non-titled BulletMercenary (Kevin Chung), a 23-year-old player from Canada with a 2070 FIDE rating, to reach #6!
